Evaluations are important to the teaching environment. Weather the evaluation is a way of checking in on students prior knowledge or doing a final assessment over an entire unit, having effective ways to evaluate student progress is essential. I could provide this link to my students before teaching the lesson on the Food Guide Pyramid and than again after the lesson to check for understanding.
Here is an example of a formative assessment I made using Quizlet.com

Evaluate 1.1.2 Quality FeedbackQuality feedback is essential to student growth. Specifically addressing a students work and giving feedback that enhances their understanding or compliments their work is standard for effective teaching. In this example of quality feedback, I complimented the student assignment and gave her resources to continue exploring the topic that was being discussed to foster her success in managing stress.
Student's Work:
1) A
big test, an annoying little brother, and a bad haircut can all add up to a lot
of stress! Discuss what stresses you out. How do you feel when you’re stressed?
The things that stress me out are exams,
occasionally my performances and telling people bad news. When I am stressed I
tend to feel anxious and sometimes my palms may get sweaty or I may feel a
little nauseas.
2) Everyone
deals with stress differently. How do you deal with it? Do some stress
management techniques work better for you than others? Why do you think some
strategies are more effective in reducing your stress level?
To deal with
stress I usually count to 10 slowly and take deep breathes, breathing in
through my nose and exhaling out my mouth. I have learned that this really
helps calm my nerves and lets me relax better than any other technique. This
technique tends to work better for me than letting someone talk to me or
writing thoughts down that are stressing me out. I think depending on the
person some strategies are more effective. If a person needs to relax talking
and laughing will not do anything but make them more anxious where as someone
who calms down better when others are talking and supporting them may need
talking and laughing instead of listening to music or deep breathing alone. According
to www.helpguide.org, a
person tends to have a faster heartbeat when they are stressed, so things that
make you more active wouldn’t calm your heartbeat as much as deep breathing
would.
3) Discuss
why some stress is considered to be good stress. Give an example of a situation
in which stress could be helpful. When does stress become a problem?
Some stress is
considered to be good stress because this stress comes from a positive event
that will eventually lead to a positive outcome. Stress can be helpful when you
are in a fight because it gets your adrenaline going. Also, it can help when
you are working or an assignment with a due date like midnight because it makes
you think faster and helps keep you awake to finish the assignment. Stress
becomes a problem when you have a negative reaction to the stress.
4) In your own words, describe General Adaptation Syndrome.
General Adaptation Syndrome is
how your body reacts to different types of stress.
5) Use stress management
skills to help Kim resolve her conflict with her sister.
Kim and her sister share a computer at home. Each of them feels that the other "hogs" the computer after school homework. As a result of this problem Kim is sometimes up later than she would like to be doing homework a result of this problem. She is tired at school the next time and finds it hard to concentrate during her classes.

1. What is the source of the stress?
The source of stress is the worry at night to try and finish
an assignment and still get enough sleep for the next day.
2. What priorities could Kim and her sister set?
They should set priorities on what really needs to be
worked on the computer. For example, if it is Monday and Kim’s sister wants to
start a paper for Friday, but Kim has a paper due the next day, Kim should be
allowed to use the computer first since her assignment is coming up much
sooner.
3. How could time management apply to this situation?
If both Kim and her sister write out or create a schedule
for who goes on the computer and how long they can be on it can prevent one
person from waiting a long time and getting stuck doing work extremely late.

Evaluate 1.1.3 The Summative Assessment
I am not currently teaching face to face and I am only teaching with GAVS, therefore, I will discuss the process of validity, reliability and security. To protect our test and quizzes, I will not post a visual of them here for security reasons.
Validity: Our question bank comes from the material that is covered within the module.
Reliability: There is an option to set up Quiz reporting.
Security: Within our quizzes, there are options to set only one question per page, set date and time restrictions, to provide unlimited or numbered attempts,

Evaluate 2.1.1 Data Driven Instruction Analytics, Reporting Tools
Enrollment and Attendance: This infomration provides the teacher with how many students that will be in the class. It provides the gender, the grade, their school, contact information, designates weather the student is Regular Ed/Sp.Ed, have they passed the orienation and when the course starts and ends. Using this information, I can contact students and parents and reach out to counselors for students that need course adjustments accourding to IEP's.
Communication: The communication log is import to document contact with parents and students and can be used as a reference.
Analytics: This is important so a teacher can evaluate where modules are requiring more time to complete than others. They can adjust the course by looking closer at the material within the course that could be causing problems for the entire class. Students also benefit from analytics, they can track their own feedback and refine the way the work and study within an LMS.

Evaluate 2.1.2 Rubrics and Competencies
Assignment (Click the image for a more detailed look)
Rubris (Click the image for a more detailed look)
Above I have listed the assignment associated with a competency and the rubric that I would use to grade this assignment. I feel like the assignment is through and will require the student to spend several days recording their food choices and nutritional information. After 3 days, the practice of looking a nutritional information and keeping a mental track of what they are eating will be the start to developing healthy habits. This exercise will give the student ample time to explore the food guide pyramid and apply it to their lives.
This assignment would be the second assignment in a group of three to ensure that a student has the opportunity to become competent in this skill. The first assignment would be a worksheet that ask them to identify each food group and the daily serving suggestions as well as identify fats, carbohydrates and proteins. The final competency for this skill would be a test over this skill.'
_________________________________________________________________________________Evaluate 3.1.1 Differentiation
This is a data sample I am using to identify needs of 4 different students. Three of the students completed every assignment within the Disease Unit. The student who did not complete one of the assignments, scored the lowest on the Unit test. I can use this information to contact Student "D" and discuss the importance of assignment completion and the importance of reaching out for help. In this sample, there is a direct correlation between students who scored higher on the assignments leading into the final test and the score they received on the final test.
I could use this data to develop and individual learning path and help student "D" when I see that they are not participating in unit assignments. I could also push students "A" and "B" a little further into discovering concepts and learning concepts that are outside the LMS. Student "C" seems to be right where they need to be and is performing at an average level.

Evaluate 3.1.2 Self-Reflection on Teaching Abilities
My final post!
Self-reflection is essential to growing as a teacher. I have been working online since 2012 and have worked with 2 different schools. I have received a variety of evaluations. Each semester I am evaluated and feedback is provided through some type of grading rubric. I have also had the opportunity to receive student feedback, which I personally find to be the most valuable.
I only teach with GAVS during the summer time and the eportfolio is something that I am going to start focusing on. Here is the current link to my eportfolio. I am not current with my evaluations or teaching practices within my GAVS eportofolio. However, now that I have completed the "TOOL" requirement, my next order of business is to update all of my information with my eportfolio.
Because I have about 5 years teaching experience online, I feel like I have a good foundation of what makes an effective online instructor. When I was hired with GAVS, I went through an entire semester of online teaching training. My first summer, I taught 100 students. Since that summer, I have consistently taught 70+ students and have meet all of the grading and teaching requirements. During the summer, the pace is fast and with that many students, you have to be prepared and organized.
